When I think of May, I think of Maggie and Abishai and their micro wedding at The Bellwether last year. This wedding weekend couldn’t have been dreamier. From a rehearsal dinner honoring familial roots to a wedding day focused on love, the merging of two families, and plenty of picture-perfect moments, I truly will never forget this day.
When Maggie and Abishai initially reached out, they described a modern micro wedding surrounded by their families. They shared inspiration full of editorial and documentary style photography and discussed how they wanted their most special moments captured. I had the opportunity to meet and photograph these two during their engagement session. I instantly fell in love with their chic style and how photogenic they both were.
Leading up to their wedding, while finalizing the wedding timeline, Maggie briefly described their rehearsal dinner. I felt it would be perfect to capture to tell the whole story of their wedding weekend. Maggie’s parents hosted their rehearsal dinner at their home. Guests arrived in traditional Indian attire, and dinner was catered by one of their favorite Indian restaurants. Abishai’s mom provided an incredible vermicelli pudding, and we all enjoyed the most amazing mango lassi. It was a beautiful evening spent with family and friends, and it was so special to be apart of.
The next day, Maggie got ready at her parents house, which can only be described as a Nancy Meyers’ dream home. It was cinematic and the perfect backdrop for Maggie’s getting ready photos. I loved Maggie’s bridal look – a short dress with an over skirt and long, sheer gloves. Afterwards, we made our way to The Bellwether. Maggie and Abishai had a joyful first look, followed by portraits at Lafayette Square Park. It was a cloudy day, but luckily, the rain stayed away for us.
They held their ceremony indoors at The Bellwether, surrounded by baby’s breath and candle light. For dinner, their guests were all seated at a singular banquet table, adorned with more candles, flowers, and disco balls. The evening itinerary stayed simple: a few short dances, dinner, toasts, and lots of story telling shared among family.
Needless to say, Maggie and Abishai’s modern micro wedding has easily made its way up the ranks as one of my favorite weddings I’ve been lucky enough to photograph. These two live a life of adventure, but I’m most grateful for getting to capture the start of this chapter for them. Scroll through to see more from their wedding weekend!
